Wush Wush

This unique coffee variety can be traced back to the town of “Wushwush”, Ethiopia, only a few kilometers from Bonga forest in Kafa. It is purported to be a regional Ethiopian landrace propagated by the local farmers. Wush Wush was brought to South America in the early 90’s, and a lot of the coffees we see are from farms in Colombia. The cherries tend to grow in clumps, and bean size can vary quite a bit from small 14 screen, up to 18+.

It’s prized for unique cup flavors, often delicate, aromatic and tea-like, and high propensity for sweetness. It’s also know to have lower yield than a typical Caturra or Bourbon, and also lack some of the disease resistance of some of the more common hybrid types. This makes Wush Wush more expensive for farmers to produce, and in turn, commands a higher price.
