The most recent version of Larry Cotton’s home-built coffee roaster includes a manual and automatic trigger for the disk

He’s back! Larry Cotton, who has been thoroughly documenting his wobble disk home coffee roasterA machine for roasting coffee. Or the person operating it! The basic requirements for a coffee roaster are a heating element that gets suitably hot and a mechanism... ...more, returns with a major update to the machine. It still roasts 3/4 lb (350 g) within 12–20 minutes, depending on the bean selection and your own preferences. Now, folks who want to construct the wobble disk roaster have the option to incorporate a manual switch or an automatic stop to the disk — which is partly responsible for agitating the coffee — when the coffee is ready to drop.
It also makes use of more metal parts, less wood, for a more compact and robust structure. However, Larry notes that these same parts shouldn’t be difficult to cut from a couple aluminum pizza pans! Check out the video, also available on our YouTube channel, and images below for a demonstration and more instructions from Larry.
