We have been impressed with this machine since we started carrying it a decade ago.
The Gene Cafe’s unique knob controls allow for manual adjustments of time and temperature during the roast cycle. The off-axis glass roast chamber allows for maximum visibility and the large chaffChaff is paper-like skin that comes off the coffee in the roasting process. Chaff from roasting is part of the innermost skin (the silverskin) of the coffee fruit... collector does an excellent job collecting chaff. The collector has an attachment for a dryer duct to make the roaster nearly smoke free. Although there is a some noise created by the metal parts inside the roast chamber, it’s still probably the quietest home roaster on the market.
It has a half pound batch capacity. This roaster is a hybrid between a drum roasterA roaster with a rotating drum that provides agitation to the beans, while a heating element (typically either electric or gas) provides heat. The metal drum conducts heat... and an air roaster so you get the benefit of even roasting from both the rotating drum and hot air circulation. We carry them in both red and black.
