The Gene Cafe is a hybrid air-and-drum roaster that uses hot air to roast coffee in a glass chamber, which you’ll see tumbling throughout the roast. Available in red or black, the Gene Cafe is a great choice for those who like minimal mess, or those who like roasting on the darker end. Jarrett, Store Manager at Sweet Maria’s, tells you more about the home roasting machine, including what we like and don’t like about it.

I loved the roast but two Genes burned out. I sent one of them back to the manufacturer but they didn’t even apologize.
If I buy one from you, would you include a warranty ?
Hey Pierre, the Gene Cafe comes with a one year warranty which is handled by US Distributor, not Sweet Maria’s. You can find the details here. Surprising to hear you had problems, we usually hear from people how long their Gene lasted (sometimes 10+ years).
I bought my Gene Cafe used about 20 years ago, I have no idea how old it was when I got it. I have had no issues at all until just recently. I noticed one of the rubber gaskets is getting crumbly and I will need to replace it. It’s been a perfect size servicing just me over the years, but I think I’m ready for a roaster that can handle a bigger batch of beans at a time.
Thanks for the note! We consistently hear that people have had their Gene Cafes for a long time. The unit we use as our demo in the warehouse is also quite old! If you decide you want to try to keep your unit running, you can get parts from the manufacturer here: https://genecafeusa.com/collections/gene-cafe-parts
