Home roaster and Sweet Maria’s customer, David Almond built this minimal machine for only a few bucks.
David Almond sent us a few pics of his DIY roaster made from a normal flour sifter a few months ago. Since then, he’s been tinkering a bit and upgraded his original design to one that produces double the batch size.
Here’s everything David used to build his roaster:
- -8 cup stainless steel flour sifter
- -4″ C clamp
- -a cast iron pan
- -stainless steel hardware cloth
He also used a headlamp to get a better view of the coffee as it’s roasting.

Thank you — I really love David’s ingenuity. I have been wondering how to make a simple roaster I can travel with, and this would seem to fit the bill.
Also, I am glad to see I am not the only one who wears flip-flops with socks in the winter.
Yes the simplicity here is brilliant. Check another one for socks n’ flops. Actually wool socks n flops. The pandemic permits this…
David I like the idea of using a flour sifter and will also try inverting my canning jar lids during off-gassing.. on a completely different topic, the nine-pointed star on your the door is a plus 🙂
