Sarchimor is a disease-resistant hybrid, crossed between Villa Sarchi and Hibrido de Timor (HdT). It also goes by the interesting name of T5296!

Sarchimor was developed around 1967 to combat Coffee Leaf Rust (CLR) disease. The original work was done in Portugal at the CIFC research facility:

After some success in field trials, there was a limited distribution in 1971, and later a form of Sarchimor was sent to CATIE in Costa Rica, where it was called T5296, referring to Turrialba, where the trial plants were located. Similar selections were done in Brazil to create Obata, Tupi, and IAPAR 59. WCR notes that Sarchimor is not a single variety, but a series of types with similar parentage. So a Sarchimor in one place, and fromn one breeding program, is not often the same as a different seed source or program.

Sarchimor still provides good resistance to Coffee Leaf Rust, but the cup can have greenish or herbal aspects that make it a bit troublesome, in our experience.
