Keeping things accessible by using more wood, less metal

Our friend Larry Cotton has been designing and building home coffee roasters for over 15 years! The latest update of his Wobble Disk Roaster came from his desire to make the building process easier by reducing the number of parts, and to involve less metal work by using wood. It makes use of typical shop tools and materials that are readily available, while keeping the general build from previous iterations in tact.
The Wobble Disk Roaster uses a heat gun as its heating element; it points up into the bottom of a flour sifter, and within that is the motorized disk for agitating the coffee and subtly removing chaffChaff is paper-like skin that comes off the coffee in the roasting process. Chaff from roasting is part of the innermost skin (the silverskin) of the coffee fruit... ...more. It can roast up to 350g of coffee between 12-20 minutes—very evenly, in fact!
While there isn’t an updated instructional PDF on how to build this version of the Wobble Disk Roaster, check out the version Larry shared in September 2024, along with the updates from June and September of last year to help piece things together.

A huge thanks to Sweet Marias, Thompson and Alex! They have been supportive of building wobble disk 350g roasters for years; their beans and expertise have always been excellent in every way.
