Coffea Liberica is a distinct Species in the Genus Coffea : Coffea Liberica is a distinct Species in the Genus Coffea originating in Liberia, West Africa.

Liberica has a large a tree-like form, with mild cup that is more similar to Robusta in terms of the plant and the cup quality, than to Arabica. The branches and leaves have an inclined attitude in relation to the trunk, the seeds are large and skin tough. It is found in Indonesia and other parts of Asia.

There has been some interest to see if Liberica can produce a decent-tasting cup, but honestly I have yet to see this potential realized. It tends to lack sweetness, and have a hard mineral taste. Since it grows in lower elevations and has some disease resistence, it could be an economic boon to farmers if the cup can be improved.

A varietal of Liberica, known as Baraco, is a major crop in the Philippines.
