Manual coffee grinders have a long history at Sweet Maria’s. Our new all-metal hand grinder is well-built and has a great price too!
Here’s quick video comparing the sturdy all-metal hand grinder we carried for the last few years, versus the new model that just arrived. What’s the great new feature? An easy twist-to-adjust grind setting ring, with easy to read scale. You can adjust the grind without opening up the mill!
It has 60 levels of adjustment. I am using 35 currently for pour-over brewing, and a range around 20 is a good starting place for espressoA small coffee beverage, about 20 ml, prepared on an espresso machine where pressurized hot water extracted through compressed coffee.: In its most stripped-down, basic form, this is....

- Conical Burrs are SU420 Stainless Steel

Burr Adjustment: The mill arrives with the burrs fully closed. Don’t use it without first adjusting it. Adjustment is with the narrow upper ring … at first I found I was trying to turn the part below the scale and that doesn’t work!
Cleaning the Burrs: You can easily clean the burr from the outside with a brush. !f you choose to remove the connical burr to clean the burr surfaces, be very careful on reassembly to avoid cross-threading the nut on the shaft. If you choose to go in deeper for cleaning, be warned that taking apart the adjustment ring is tricky. There are small metal bits, the click-stops, and then are easily lost. I recommend only removing the conical V burr, and nothing else. You need a 10 mm socket to remove the burr nut, as well as keeping the crank handle on the top so the shaft doesn’t just spin.
(An old-school alternative is to run a small amount of rice through the burrs to clean them. No disassembly needed!)
