Stay up to date on coffee we have coming down the pipeline and our latest green coffee outlook and arrivals schedule.
Green Coffee Notes for June 2021:
- June and July are looking like big months for us in terms of new coffee arrivals
- While port congestion is still having a big impact on overall transit times, the flow of containers at the Oakland Port seems to be moving at a steady clip – albeit, there’s A LOT more to move than normal.
- It’s looking like we are mere weeks away from receiving reinforcements from GuatemalaGuatemalan coffee is considered a top quality coffee producer in Central America. Due to our proximity to Guatemala, some of the nicest coffees from this origin come to..., NicaraguaNicaraguan coffees from the Segovia, Jinotega, Ocotal and Matagalpa regions are nice balanced cups. They often possess interesting cup character along with body and balance, outperforming many other..., Costa RicaCosta Rican coffee is typically very clean, sweet, with lots of floral accents. hey are prized for their high notes: bright citrus or berry-like flavors in the acidity,..., EthiopiaEthiopia, formerly known as Abyssinia, or a coffee cultivar: Ethiopia, or more specifically the Empire under Haile Selassie, was known as Abyssinia. The name is Latin, derived from... and KenyaKenya is the East African powerhouse of the coffee world. Both in the cup, and the way they run their trade, everything is topnotch.: Kenya is the East... on our shores.
- We are keeping a close eye on a few of our African shipments as they pass through the South China Sea after a reported outbreak of COVID-19 in Guangzhou province affecting several Chinese ports.
- Existing backups at ports in this region are exacerbated by a thinned workforce, as well as a looming container shortage out of these ports as a result of shipping lines start to avoid these ports.
- There are currently an estimated 40 vessels anchored off the Yantian Port, and many lines are rerouting boats to ports nearby. The ripple effect is already being felt, and the backup is expected to surpass the blockage of the Suez canal back in March.
- We did manage to bring in two containers of Kenyan coffees last week, one of which is already in our warehouse and ready to start listing Friday June 11. That coffee was shipped to the East Coast, then railed across to Oakland, bypassing the mess at West Coast ports. In hindsight, that was a pretty good move and definitely expedited delivery!
- We also have a couple new coffees from MexicoMexican coffee originates from South-central to Southern regions of the country. For that reason, coffees from Coatepec and Veracruz are much different from Oaxacan Plumas, which are in... in store that bypassed ports altogether, traveling by truck from Chiapas through Laredo, Texas, then on to us in Oakland.
- And finally, to those waiting on Liquid Amber blend – due to the recent COVID-19 outbreak in IndiaS-795 is a variety based on the " S-Line" coffees of India, and stands for Selection 795, It has a very fine cup, one of the best in..., our shipment of Monsoon coffee has been delayed. We are still waiting for a realistic ETD on that shipment, and I’ll try to post an update to the site just as soon as we have one. Thanks for understanding!
Upcoming green coffees currently on the schedule to be added to our website:
Please keep in mind that the coffees on the Upcoming Coffee Outlook schedule with a location status of “In Transit” are still a bit of a wild card, and the month we have them listed under is based on the current shipping ETA. Thanks for your patience!

It must be very challenging and, at the same time, exciting selecting coffees. I am still very new to the whole roasting experience and always find myself saying “wow” as I get more and more into it. I am a truck driver so have to do more of what I call a “hack and slash” approach to roasting currently. I don’t have the time and resources to really do it how I would like too. I currently have a small home roaster and am really liking the results however. I am going to get a popcorn popper to take on the road with me as it will be easier to store. In the future I do want to set something nice up at home.
Anyways, today’s wow was courtesy of you expected coffee list. It is amazing how many farms and different types there are. It is really neat and I have a ton to still learn.
Thank you for all of your resources and information. It has all helped me immensely.
I can imagine truck driving and good coffee are a match! (probably the understatement of the year). Anyway the thing I like about home roasting personally is it works at all levels. Up to a certain point, the equipment doesn’t hold you back from enjoying it. Fresh roast coffee is fresh roast coffee, and usually better than anything else. I think where people want to upgrade is when they want more precise repeatability, or for a more convenient method. Seems like taking a popper on the road is a good idea. I roasted once in a Motel 6 and nobody seemed to mind… of course I made sure to vent out a window so the roast smells didn’t linger in the room.
Wow, that’s a lot to look forward to! I am really excited to try some of the Guatemalan coffees since I spent a month down there back in 2005. I really enjoyed the beauty of the country, and the people were exceptionally nice. When I had the chance to have fresh coffee there it was excellent, and a real treat since instant coffee seemed to be the norm at so many places. I especially enjoyed one little coffee shop in Cobán that followed a pretty harrowing drive returning from the north!
Guatemala is such a beautiful country. It’s one we make 2 or more trips to each year, so particularly rough to have an off year of travel. We’ve put a lot of time over the years into our Guatemalan coffee sourcing, and it’s become one of our biggest origins volume-wise, something we’re quite proud of! There are a lot of really tasty lots on the way from Huehuetenango and around the Antigua/Chimaltenango regions. Here’s a post on our “Proyecto Xinabajul” project in Huehue if you’re interested in reading more about our direct buying in Guatemala.
I just checked statuses on the first containers this AM and it’s looking like we should see the first arrivals June 22. Of course, there’s a lot of time and work involved to turn them around to our offer list, but we hope to get them up before July!
